Why oh why does every defence of 'older' dancers have to be about bashing the young?
Not all the crazies are young and skinny, all the horrifying performances I have seen have reflected the age distribution in the dance as a whole.
I'm nearly 29 (and have been dancing nearly 11 years now) so I don't even know whether I'm 'young' anymore but I still feel like I'm being got at. I'm not old but I'm hardly a wide eyed 20 year old OMG BDSS/Shakira are awesome bedroom dancer, although many people still treat me like it both online and IRL.
I'm not sure I buy into that lovely comforting myth about having 'more to dance about'. Honestly, I think you either 'get' the music or you don't. The longer you are exposed to the music and the really great dancers, the more likely you are to 'get' it and be able to convey it. Its about experience and to a certain extent, something innate. Age has fuck all to do with it.
